Doctor Who Does America

10/11/10 04:27 am - rengeek

It's Official: 'Doctor Who' To Film in the U.S. For The First Time!

American Doctor Who fans, get your telescopes in position: the TARDIS is landing Stateside. And there's a new 2011 teaser that has been released. Geronimooooo!

Rumors have abounded for months now, but today the BBC has officially announced that Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and the whole Doctor Who crew will leave Wales to film the first two episodes of the upcoming season in Utah. This is the very first time that the long-running sci-fi series has filmed here. (While the 1996 Eighth Doctor movie was set in San Francisco, it was actually filmed in Canada.)

Read the full article and the press release and a bit of a teaser here!

Just a quick reminder for everyone who is attending Dragoncon, that if you want to march in the Saturday morning parade group of the Prydon Academy (a costuming group for Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, please join the forum over here:

The forum is free to all; you do need a login and password, and these are sent out as soon as you sign up. :)

Then find the Dragoncon forum, and post in the various threads.

Parade ribbons will be given out at the pre-parade meet-up. Don't forget that you must wear your Dragoncon badge to march in the parade.

After the parade ends, the group has a photo-shoot (location posted over at the forum). Photographers welcome, and even if you can't or don't want to march in the parade, you're welcome to show up in costume to be part of the photo-shoot. :)

There's also the Brittrack costume panel that a lot of PA members attend. The official D*C schedule isn't up at the time of my writing this post, but I have been told that it will be sometimes Saturday afternoon.

Also, many PA members go out to eat as a group on Saturday evening. :)

5/20/10 11:01 am - acciochocolate - TimeGate's Charity Support for 2010

TimeGate, Atlanta's Doctor Who, Stargate, and more convention, May 28-30, is partnering with two charities this year, Caring Bridge and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity! Here is how you can help out.

First, attend the Cabaret on Saturday night at 8:00 PM. Your $5 admission fee is 100% donated to the two charities. And as a reward for your attendance, door prizes will be given at the end of the show. Purchase your Cabaret ticket at Registration. (If you'd like to add your talent to the Cabaret line-up as a performer, contact Alan at programs at timegatecon.org .)

Secondly, save the green tabs from Sprite and Sprite Zero cans and bring them to TimeGate Registration; for each one collected and turned in, the Coca-Cola Company will donate 10 cents to Habitat for Humanity.

Third, donation boxes for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity will be placed at TimeGate. Drop in your loose change and more!

TimeGate's goal is to donate $500 to the two charities this year; please join the con in reaching that goal!

TimeGate's guests this year include Carmen Argenziano from Stargate SG1 and Paul Kasey & Dominic Glynn from Doctor Who, plus many more. Learn more about TimeGate at http://www.timegatecon.org

5/14/10 01:30 pm - acciochocolate - May's Atlanta Gallifreyan meeting is Saturday the 15th

Our next Atlanta Gallifreyans (The DW/TW/SJA club in Atlanta, GA!) meeting is this Saturday, May 15th. We'll be back in the Doraville Civic Center.

(Address and directions at the club's site:
http://www.atlantagallifreyans.com )

Set-up starts at 4:30 PM and the meeting begins around 5 PM.

As always, food and drink are welcome. No alcohol, please, since the Civic Center is a government building. There is a stove/oven, and microwave for heating up or cooking of food. (Any cooking pots, pans, utensils, or hotpads will need to be brought in, as the kitchen has very little of any of this.)

We will be showing the next Sarah Jane Adventures, some more of the Third Doctor on the Planet of the Daleks, and then the next Eleventh Doctor episodes. These can include in order:

5.3 Victory of the Daleks

5.4 The Time of Angels

5.5 Flesh and Stone (5.4 and 5.5 are a two-parter)

5.6 The Vampires of Venice

Also, we'll be talking about TimeGate, the Atlanta, GA con for all things Doctor Who and Stargate that is taking place May 28th-30th, 2010. For more info, check the website at: http://timegatecon.org . :)
